Mozambique: Alleged “prophet” arrested for “marrying” 12-year-old girl in Quelimane – Carta

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) a few days ago detained an alleged prophet of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church in the city of Quelimane, Zambezia province, on the grounds of having “married” a 12-year-old girl.

The police believe that the individual, João Mazeluza, went to the minor’s residence, where he told her parents that he had a spiritual revelation, in which he was told to marry the girl.

The alleged “revelation” was reportedly “accepted” by the parents, who allowed the supposed prophet to “marry” their daughter.

Police say the individual can be charged with the crime of premature union, now punishable in Mozambique under Law 19/2019, of 22 October, which prohibits and combats premature unions.
