Africa-PressMozambique. Mozambique and Zambia are planning a series of meetings to deepen cooperation, especially in the areas of agriculture and energy, Rádio Moçambique reports.

President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi said that the meetings should take place as soon as possible, given the mutual interests of the two countries.

Filipe Nyisi was speaking to Mozambican journalists outside the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, the venue that hosted the inauguration of the new president of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, elected in the ballot of August 12.

Hichilema was elected with more than 2,800,000 votes, defeating 16 candidates, including Edgar Lungo, who stepped down this Tuesday.

Filipe Nyusi congratulated the Zambian people for having contributed to the current August 12 presidential elections taking place in a calm and orderly environment.

Other countries from southern Africa were represented at the ceremony, and those leaders who intervened said they were open to continuing the project of developing the SADC in concert with the new president.

Mozambican professor of international relations, Calton Cadeado, said that the result of the Zambian elections should serve as an example for political parties around the world, and for Africa in particular.
