Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday appointed Arsenia Massingue as Interior Minister, the first woman to hold the post in Mozambican history.

Massingue was previously the Director of the National Immigration Service (SENAMI). She had also held the posts of Provincial Police Commander in Inhambane, Manica and Nampula.

Nyusi appointed Maj-Gen Cristovao Chume as his new Defence Minister. Chume is a professional soldier who was previously commander of the army. He has also served as the National Director of Defence Policy as well as the Commander of the Samora Machel Military Academy in Nampula.

Massingue and Chume take over from Amade Miquidade and Jaime Neto who were relieved of their duties earlier this week.

Nyusi also appointed Constantino Bacela as Minister in the Presidency, replacing Adelaide Amurane.

As is usual in announcing changes to the Mozambican government, no reasons were given for the dismissals or appointments.
