Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique on Wednesday received from Brazil 18,300 ampoules of intravenous Azithromycin, which is used in the treatment of Covid-19.
The donation, formally received by Minister of Health Armindo Tiago from the Brazilian ambassador, Carlos Alfonso Iglesias, comes as the Covid-19 pandemic in Mozambique is worsening.
“I would like to once again reiterate my gratitude to the Brazilian people and Government who, even though their own country is also being ravaged by Covid-19, are helping Mozambique with these important drugs for the treatment and recovery of patients affected by Covid -19,” Minister Tiago said.
The minister described the current pandemic situation in the country as “worsening”.
“The situation is worsening,” he warned. “There is, therefore, a great need to take to heart the prevention measures laid down in the Presidential Decree on the Situation of Public Calamity.”
Armindo Tiago said that Mozambique had on Tuesday (July 6) posted a new high in the number of people reported as infected by the new coronavirus, with 1,458 people testing positive, according to Ministry of Health figures.
The positivity rate nationally was 31.7%, while the accumulated (historical) positivity rate was 13.3%.
