Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government has created a commission to investigate the causes of the closure of the Cimento Nacional company in Beluluane Industrial Park, Maputo province.
The company closed without warning, leaving more than 300 workers to their fate.
Secretary of State for Maputo province Vitória Diogo told Radio Mozambique that the creation of the commission would safeguard the rights of workers.
“A case was sent to the Attorney’s Office to look at what, in legal terms, might be done. We have set up a commission, which is working, and has already made contact with some of the [Cimento Nacional] managers, who unfortunately are outside the country, so that they constitute a representative because there are rules that have to be obeyed in order to guarantee that, if a company closes, it complies with procedures to indemnify workers and ensure that everything that the legal framework dictates in relation to matters of this nature is safeguarded,” Vitória Digo said.
The closure of Cimento Nacional in the largest industrial park in Maputo province comes at a time when the cement sector is suffering from strong competition in the national market.
Meanwhile, TVM reports that one oother cement factory has also closed, alleging unfair competitivo [on the part of a recently opened cement factory] .
