Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Saturday reported 15 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 151,367.

According to a Saturday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 948,806 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,399 of them in the previous 24 hours.

1,384 of the tests yielded negative results, while 15 people tested positive for the coronavirus. Of these new cases, eight were men and seven were women. Six cases (40 per cent) were from the northern province of Cabo Delgado, three were from Maputo city, three from Gaza, and one each from Nampula, Zambezia and Manica.

The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Saturday was 1.1 per cent, a slight increase on Friday’s rate of 0.9 per cent, and Thursday’s of one per cent.

Over the same 24 hour period, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital, and one new case was admitted in Maputo city. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities was six, the same s on Friday. Five of these patients were in Maputo and one was in Tete.

The Ministry release reported one further death from Covid-19, a 57 year old Mozambican man who died in Maputo. This brings the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique to 1,934.

No recoveries from Covid-19 were reported on Saturday. The number of active cases of the disease rose from 117 on Friday to 131 on Saturday.

The distribution of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 44; Maputo city, 36; Niassa, 17; Nampula, 10; Gaza, seven; Inhambane, five; Zambezia, four; Tete, four; Manica, three; and Maputo province, one. Sofala remained the only province without any active Covid-19 cases.

The Ministry reported that, in the previous 24 hours, 141,860 people had been vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated now stands at 2,582,969, and 4,721,750 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
