Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government has declared three days of national mourning, from Saturday 17 to Monday 19 of this month, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, the spokesman for the Council of Ministers announced today.
The decision comes after Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi wrote that the Queen “devoted her entire life to the service of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the world, with unparalleled dedication, dignity, humility and passion”, further noting that “the Mozambican people respected and cherished Her Majesty”.
During Queen Elizabeth II‘s reign, Mozambique enjoyed good relations with the United Kingdom, joining the Commonwealth as a full member, Nyusi highlighted in a message of condolences released on Friday (09-09).
Mozambique joined the Commonwealth in 1995, despite not having been a colony of the British Empire. Its neighbours, who were, supported the country’s accession.

Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8 at the age of 96, after more than 70 years on the throne, the longest reign in UK history.
The late monarch will lie in state in Westminster Hall for four days before her funeral next Monday.
Westminster Hall will remain open 24 hours a day to allow thousands of members of the public to pay their respects.
After the monarch’s death, her eldest son assumed the throne and will now be known as King Charles III.
Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Government of Mozambique decrees three days of national mourning, from 17 to 19 September.
