Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican Medical Association yesterday held a press conference to announce that they will call for the resumption of the strike suspended in January pending negotiations with the government.
“The government was not serious; it did not implement what it agreed with us. Of what was agreed, only 10% was implemented. In addition, this May, doctors received wages with considerable reductions, making them lower than those of April. No one can explain the reasons for this. We approached MISAU, and we have had no explanation for the problem,” the association announced.
The doctors’ concerns are the same as those of other health professionals, who suspended their strike on Sunday: poor working conditions.
“We have a lack of resources for diagnosis, from laboratory reagents and equipment for imaging tests (X-ray and CAT scan) to a lack of medication.”
These problems mean there are hospitals without emergency services at various times, and others that need to implement restrictions.
No date has been given for the start of the strike, but the Medical Association of Mozambique says that it will be made known this Friday.
