Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican Foreign Minister Veronica Macamo on Sunday met with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Dakar on the eve of the eighth ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

According to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi stressed that Mozambique is an important partner in Africa and that the two countries have deepened mutual political trust and achieved fruitful results.

He added that “the two peoples have stood together and helped each other fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, further elevating their traditional friendship”.

Wang Yi stressed that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Mozambique relations and that the FOCAC conference is “an opportunity to advance greater progress in the China-Mozambique comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership”.

In particular, he noted his country’s willingness to cooperate in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, and energy and to help Mozambique speed up its development within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative, FOCAC, and the Forum Macao (also known as the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries).

For her part, Macamo pointed out that Mozambique and China enjoy profound traditional friendship and noted that the Mozambican people are greatly appreciative of China’s assistance during their struggle for independence.

The statement noted that on the diplomatic front, Macamo stressed that Mozambique strongly adheres to the one-China policy.

The FOCAC conference will be held on Monday and Tuesday under the theme “Deepen China-Africa Partnership and Promote Sustainable Development to Build a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the New Era”.
