Africa-Press – Mozambique. The High Court of Appeal of Maputo City has sentenced the former director of the Agrarian Development Fund, Setina Titosse, to 16 years in prison for embezzlement, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reports this Friday.
The sentence reduces by two years the penalty imposed on Setina Titosse in 2018, in the first instance, by the Judicial Court of Maputo City, which had sentenced the former manager to 18 years.
According to the ruling issued on July 16 cited by Notícias, the Maputo High Court of Appeal found the accusation of embezzlement of 170 million meticais (equivalent to €2.3 million on the date of conviction in the first instance) to be proven.
The appeal court also sentenced six other people accused of involvement in the case to terms ranging from 6 to 12 years.
A seventh defendant was sentenced to six years, but this was replaced by a fine, and a ninth defendant was acquitted.
The fund is run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and supports projects in the agricultural sector.
