Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government has decreed a day of national mourning for the death of national liberation veteran, Sérgio Vieira.
The decision was taken on in an extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers, convened on Friday to consider the matter.
Mourning is to be observed tomorrow, Tuesday, December 21, according to the spokesperson for the session of the Council of Ministers, Filimão Suázi, who announced that the government had also decided to hold an official funeral for Sérgio Vieira.
“National mourning will be observed for one day from zero hours on December 21, 2021. During that period, the national flag and the presidential flag will fly at half-mast throughout the national territory and in missions of the diplomatic and consular offices of the Republic of Mozambique,” Suazi said.
Sérgio Vieira, political leader and revolutionary poet, was born in Tete in 1941, and died this Thursday at the age of 80.
