Mozambique: Government owes around three billion meticais to fuel suppliers – O País

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government has accumulated debts to fuel supply companies operating in the country during the recent period of the price of oil rising on the international market.

This debt amounts to around three billion meticais, equivalent to around US$46,989,990 at current exchange rates.

This amount refers to the subsidy that the government has promised to pay, in the form of a cushion to prevent filling stations increase fuel prices during the above-mentioned period.

The information was revealed on Wednesday (16-03) by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE), Paulo da Graça.

Paulo da Graça further said that, so far, no concrete date has been set for the repayment of the debt.
