Africa-Press – Mozambique. Thirteen people, including two women, were arrested on Tuesday in the main village of Mabote district, in Inhambane province, as a result of rioting caused by the discovery of the body of a Mozambican man in a warehouse belonging to a man of Bangladeshi origin.

As far as Carta has been able to ascertain, the victim had reportedly been imprisoned in the warehouse by his boss after 380,000 meticais from the sale of some cashew nuts went missing. Carta sources state that the victim had been incarcerated for three days before allegedly losing his life to asphyxiation.

The same sources say that the case was reported to the authorities and the Bangladeshi citizen was arrested, but released only days later, this being the reason for the outrage.

The crowd then resorted to violence, burning tires and barricading roads.

The police eventually intervened, and 13 of the protesters were detained for a few hours.
