Mozambique: Minister urges police to earn trust of society to help combat crime

Africa-PressMozambique. Mozambique’s minister of interior, Amade Miquidade, on Monday urged the country’s police forces to earn the trust of society with a view to building an effective relationship with the public in order better to combat crime.

“The citizens should look at us and be sure that they can rely on the forces of law and order for their peace,” said Miquidade at a meeting with representatives of several branches of the Mozambican Republic Police (PRM) in Tete province, in the centre of the country.

In their actions, he said, police forces should be guided by legality, ethics and deontology, so as to transmit a sense of safety to society.

“Patriotism and responsibility are fundamental if citizens are to feel that they can count on an honest police force,” he added.

Without a relationship of trust, he stressed, the police will not have the citizens on their side.
