Africa-Press – Mozambique. Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) has just provided a basket of support measures for those displaced by terrorism in Cabo Delgado, a press release from the company reads.
In all, the mining company has offered 1,000 sheets of zinc to displaced families in the village of Nanjua, an administrative post in Mesa, Ancuabe district. MRM also delivered 2,000 blankets and 5,000 mosquito nets to the district government of Montepuez. The distribution of the donations will be conducted by local government authorities.
Speaking at one of the support delivery locations, the coordinator of the Infrastructure Project Management Unit for the North Region, Jaime Victor, thanked MRM for its initiative.
“This contribution is a great relief for us. In this project, we are going to resettle 960 families, the equivalent of about 5,000 people, and one of the major constraints at the moment are zinc sheets and beams for the roofs of the houses, which is why MRM’s offer responds so well to our appeal,” he said.
In turn, the Permanent Secretary of the district of Montepuez, Eduardo Bernardo, noted the importance of this initiative and the impact the support represents in the lives of beneficiaries, especially at a time when the district is facing an outbreak of malaria, since the second quarter of this year.
Prahalad Singh, General Manager of Montepuez Ruby Mining, said: “Everything we do in our operations must be reflected in improving the quality of life for people in the communities where we operate and beyond. We hope that these donations positively impact the lives of many people.”
