Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Honorary President of the Olympic Committee of Mozambique (COM), Marcelino Macome, has die, according to a source close to the COM. Marcelino Macome lost his life on Tuesday night to an ailment he had been battling for some years.

This is an irreparable loss for Mozambican sport, as Marcelino Macome was a prominent sports leader, having distinguished himself in the leadership of the Olympic Committee of Mozambique, an institution in which he also served as secretary general for many years, until his natural ascension to the leadership of the institution.

Macome was for many years involved in activities related to the Olympic Committee of Mozambique, founded in 1978, having been one of the figures with a direct influence on the awarding of a scholarship to Mozambican Maria de Lurdes Mutola, who ended up heading to the United States of America, where she improved her skills to later become world and Olympic champion in her specialties.

Marcelino Macome directed the Mozambique Olympic Committee until 2017, and it was his team that was behind the ambitious project that culminated in the construction of the COM’s new headquarters, an investment budgeted at US$40 million.

In addition to his leadership roles in the Mozambican Olympic movement, Marcelino Macome was a sports manager at Clube de Desportos da Maxaquene.
