Africa-Press – Mozambique. Cesar Augusto Mba Abogo, a former minister of finance of Equatorial Guinea has been appointed the representative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Mozambique, to replace Pietro Toigo of Italy, the institution announced on Thursday.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the AfDB’s president, Akinwumi Adesina, described Mba Abogo as “an experienced and respected economist, with extensive management experience in the public sector” who “brings a strong experience of working with national, international and non-governmental partners” and whose “experience and expertise will serve the Bank well in Mozambique.”
Adesina said that Abogo’s work is to begin on 16 August.
His biography describes him as an “economist and a writer with over 15 years of experience in national resource economics, development economics, public policy and international negotiations.”
It was during his term as minister of finance that Equatorial Guinea concluded negotiations for a financial assistance programme from the International Monetary Fund worth almost $300 million (€253 million).
“It is an honour to join the AfDB, an institution led by a person many of us consider the ‘chief optimist’ in Africa,” said Abogo. “We are at a historic crossroads for our continent, and I am excited at the prospect of making my contribution to the AfDB, our leading development institution.”
The AfDB is a multilateral institution dedicated to financing development. Its shareholders are African countries and others outside the region, including Portugal.
