Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Thursday reported a further nine cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease.
No deaths from the disease were reported and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remains 1,940.
According to a Thursday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 972,276 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,460 of them in the previous 24 hours.
1,451 of these tests yielded negative results. Of the nine positive cases, five were women and four were men. Four were diagnosed in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, two in Maputo city, and one each in Maputo province, Gaza and Manica. The total number of cases of Covid-19 identified in Mozambique now stands at 151,512.
The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the virus) on Thursday was 0.62 per cent. The rates earlier in the week were 0.55 per cent on Wednesday, 0.2 per cent on Tuesday, 0.88 per cent on Monday, zero on Sunday, and 0.68 per cent on Saturday.
Over the same 24 hour period, there was no movement in the Covid-19 treatment facilities. No patients were discharged, and no new cases were admitted. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 wards remained two, the same as on Wednesday, with one patient in Maputo and the other in Matola.
The Ministry release reported six complete recoveries from Covid-19 (five in Gaza, and one in Zambezia). The total number of recoveries now stands at 149,647, or 98.1 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 98 on Wednesday to 101 on Thursday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 25; Maputo city, 25; Nampula, 17; Niassa, seven; Zambezia, five; Manica, five; Gaza, five; Sofala, four; Inhambane, four; and Maputo province, four. Tete remained the only province with no active cases of Covid-19.
The Ministry also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 131,970 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. To date. 3,634,425 people have been fully vaccinated against the disease, and 6,363,566 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
