Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique participates today and tomorrow in the XI European Union-Africa Summit in Brussels, seat of the European bloc.
President Filipe Nyusii arrived in the Belgian capital this morning at the head of a delegation including the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo Ndlovo; of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita; and Deputy Minister of Health, Lídia Cardoso.
Nyusi joins other heads of state and government from the two continents to discuss opportunities, aiming to establish the basis for a renewed partnership between the two blocs. What is basically intended is greater political involvement, based on trust and understanding of mutual interests.
During the summit, the two sides will discuss how they can create more prosperity for their mutual benefit.
‘Notícias’ learned in Brussels that one of the objectives of the summit is the launch of an ambitious EU-Africa investment package, taking into account global challenges such as climate change and the current health crisis. The parties will also focus on instruments and solutions that promote security and stability within an architecture of renewed peace and security.
The President of the Republic will participate in round tables where topics such as financing for growth, health systems and vaccine production, agriculture and sustainable development, education, culture and professional training, migration and mobility will be discussed.
In particular, the head of state will be a speaker on one of the panels, where he will talk about terrorism and the management of Covid-19 both now and in the post-pandemic era.
In Brussels, President Nyusi will also seek support to help repair the damage caused by cyclones in the agriculture sector, and to build infrastructure for retaining the waters that have caused multiple floods in the country.
Topics such as peace, security and governance, climate change and the energy transition will also be discussed, as well as digitization and transport.
A joint statement on the vision for 2030 will be adopted at the end of the summit.
