Africa-Press – Mozambique. The daughter to the late former Mozambican President Samora Machel, Ms Olivia Machel, has paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa this Thursday, with discussions focusing on economic issues.
Emerging from the closed door meeting with the President, Ms Machel, who was speaking through an interpreter said her visit sought to brief President Mnangagwa on the Chongoene port project.
Machel chairs Mozambique STT, a company working on the construction of the US$324 million Chongoene deepwater port.
She said the Port project was her late father’s dream, noting that the region is in need of an efficient transport system due to the vast minerals which require transportation.
The Chongoene Development Corridor Project which has an estimated investment of 3 billion United States dollars, also involves a railway connection to the Limpopo corridor.
Ms Machel was accompanied by Ambassador Chis Mutsvangwa who said the plans to set up the port come at a time when Zimbabwe is developing a steel plant project in Manhize, Chivhu.
