Africa-Press – Mozambique. President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi on Thursday had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, with whom he discussed the terrorism claiming lives and displacing people in Cabo Delgado, and the need for humanitarian support.
According to a note from the presidency received last night by Noticias, the two also discussed the Integrated Northern Development Agency (ADIN) and the commitment of Rwandan and SADC forces to the fight against terrorism.
In addition to assessing the state of relations first established in 1975, and which were classified as being at their best, the two leaders also addressed the security situation in Cabo Delgado, the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) process, the Covid-19 pandemic and the development of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact.
Economic aspects, specifically trade and investments, were also touched upon during the conversation.
The President of the Republic and the US Secretary of State also discussed issues related to training, development, stability, respect for human rights, strengthening democracy and climate change.
The parties were unanimous in classifying the contact as very productive and important for the strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation, to the advantage of both nations.
Blinken expressed solidarity with Mozambique in the fight against terrorism, and conveyed condolences to the people and the Government of Mozambique for the lives lost to terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
