Africa-PressMozambique. The President of the Republic and incumbent of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Filipe Nyusi, is attending this Friday (June 2) in Lusaka, the state funeral of the founding President of the Republic of Zambia, Kenneth David Kaunda,

According to a communique issued by the Presidency, Filipe Nyusi is accompanied by the minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, and members of the staff from the Presidency of the Republic and other State institutions.

Over Eight African heads of states are expected to be in attendance for Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s state funeral in Lusaka.

Among those expected include Kenya’s Uhuru Kenya, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo, Malawi’s Lazarous Chakwera and Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa.

President Edgar Lungu says the high profile dignitaries coming to mourn Dr. Kaunda shows the great leader that he was.

And President Edgar Lungu has declared this Friday and Wednesday next week July 7, the day on which Dr. Kaunda will be put to rest as public holidays.

President Lungu says his will accord Zambians an opportunity to pay their last respects to Zambia’s first president.

Dr. Kaunda’s state funeral will be held at the show grounds in Lusaka under strict adherence to pandemic guidelines.
