Africa-PressMozambique. The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) says it seized 1.3 tons of cannabis sativa (‘suruma’) in the last week, plus two bags of a psychotropic substance.

Over the same period, the PRM seized 60 grams of heroin and 4.2 grams of cocaine, according to a Police General Command press release regarding the operational results between the 18th and 24th of September.

According to the note, the corporation also seized eight heads of cattle, 13 vehicles, 18 motorbikes, 17 TV sets and 55 mobile phones from alleged criminals. Five firearms, four of them pistols, were also seized, along with 775 rounds of ammunition, 676 of them for the AK-47 weapon.

In addition, the police detained 1,264 individuals, 586 for border violations, 364 for illegal immigration and 314 for common criminal practices.

Within the scope of Covid-19 preventative measures decreed in the context of the State of Public Calamity, 288 people were fined for disobedience, 22,392 groups of people in crowding situations were dispersed and 1,589 vehicles were apprehended.

Still last week, the PRM registered a total of 14 deaths, which resulted from 24 traffic accidents, 10 run-overs, seven collisions and overturnings and six collisions between cars.

Excessive speed and poor pedestrian behaviour are indicated as the main causes of accidents.
