Africa-PressMozambique. One of the employees of the BCI bank in Quelimane, detained following Thursday’s robbery, has accused the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) of torture.

A visibly moved employee spoke to O País on Saturday (July 30), after a plaster cast was put on his arm at the Quelimane General Hospital.

The victim said he and his colleagues were ill-treated while under investigation on Friday night, presenting for inspection an x-ray of the injury to his arm.

“They beat me at SERNIC, me and my colleagues, and my arm was fractured from the shambok blows,” he said.

Police spokesman Felisberto Jamal denied the accusation, but promised further clarification in due course.

“SERNIC, in the course of its activities, at no time carried out any assault, but, as the case is under investigation, what we can say is that we will inform the press of details in due course,” Jamal said.
