Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican police has arrested two men who broke into the house of a judge in Manhiça district, Maputo province, and held her hostage for two days, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has announced.

Quoted on Monday by the newspaper Notícias, SERNIC spokesperson Elino Pangane said that the two men were part of a gang of three who forced the judge to ask family members to transfer 140,000 meticais (about €2,000) to their bank account in exchange for her freedom.

The day after the robbers entered the residence, the judge was forcibly taken by the leader of the group to an ATM where she withdrew the required money, Pangane said.

The SERNIC spokesman added that the gang also stole a computer and cell phones belonging to the judge.

The police operation resulted in the arrest of two of the three robbers and the recovery of some of the belongings taken from the judge’s house.

Pangane said that the leader of the group had fled to Gaza province, and a search was currently underway to locate him.
