Mozambique: SERNIC incinerates 130 kg of drugs in Nampula

Africa-Press – Mozambique. SERNIC in Nampula last Friday afternoon incinerated a total of 130 kg of suruma (cannabis sativa) and methamphetamine.

SERNIC deputy spokesman for Saulete Mucimboa told journalists witnessing the event that the haul was the result of operations culminating in their seizure.

Mucimboa said that the drugs came from various parts the province, primarily Moma and Mogincual districts, which are considered the prime points of entry for narcotics in the province.

Part of the drugs was destined for the country’s capital, Maputo, she added, and some would cross Mozambican borders and enter the international market.

Mucimboa said that effective work was being carried out with the aim of combating the drug traffic and increasing the number of arrests.

In turn, Isabel Sanfins, provincial director of the Drug Prevention Enforcement Office in Nampula province, announced that, since January this year, approximately 1052 kg of drugs had been seized, a number considered both high and worrying.
