Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique is set to enhance its focus on children to better protect their rights, particularly in the context of climate change and other phenomena affecting the country, such as storms, cyclones, and terrorism in northern Cabo Delgado.
These emergencies lead to the displacement of thousands of people, including children, posing imminent risks to their rights, such as family, education, and health.
In this context, the protection strategy will focus on children’s survival areas, including health and nutrition, and development through education and recreation. It also encompasses birth registration, and the fight against abuse and child labor.
These insights were shared by Angélica Magaia, the National Director for Children at the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Action (MGCAS), who discussed the situation of this group in the context of today’s celebration of June 1, International Children’s Day.
She assured that the government intends to reinforce environmental education to teach children how to preserve nature.
