Africa-Press – Mozambique. Speaking on the sidelines of Peace Day celebrations, PRM General Commander Bernardino Rafael warned of the risk of terrorists seeking to avenge the blows delivered by the joint forces in the North Operational Theatre.
“We are committed to ensuring tranquillity in the central area [of the country] and creating conditions for the free movement of people and goods. As the President of the Republic mentioned, there was the destruction of one Mariano Nhongo camp, and we reiterate the call that he surrenders and joins the Mozambican family.
“In the North Operating Theatre, we must highlight that the main bases have been dismantled, but that’s not the end, because they (the terrorists) remain banded together in small groups and, due to their anger and fury, they can break a lot of things. Whenever things are about to end, the consequences have been serious,” Rafael explained.
The PRM general commander also said that it was time the Mozambican Police caught up with other police forces worldwide, in terms of training and equipment.
“Organized crime is a reality not only in Mozambique, but in various parts of the continent. Hence, there is a need to adapt our police to the dimension of others at an international level. This will be carried out in a phased manner; it is not possible for the government to make these investments in rehabilitation and construction of police infrastructure in a single phase,” he commented.
