Mozambique Three new Covid-19 cases and 18 recoveries reported on Monday

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Monday reported just three further cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease and 18 recoveries.

According to a Monday press release from the Ministry of Health, the new cases were all Mozambican women, between five and 46 years of age. Two were from Gaza and one was from Maputo city.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,375,879 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 233 of them in the previous 24 hours. 230 of these tests yielded negative results, and the three who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,890.

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) fell from 2.22 per cent on Sunday to just 1.29 per cent on Monday.

Two Covid-19 patients, both from Niassa, were discharged from hospital on Monday, and no new cases were admitted. The number of patients undergoing medical care in the Covid-19 wards fell from 13 on Sunday to 11 on Monday. Four of these patients were in Gaza, three in Maputo city, three in Niassa, and one in Zambezia. One of these patients was in intensive care, receiving supplementary oxygen.

The Ministry release reported no further deaths from Covid-19 on Monday. The total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 2,119.

Of the 18 recoveries declared on Monday, 11 were from Nampula, five from Zambezia and two from Maputo province. The total number of recoveries now stands at 227,408, which is 98.92 per cent of all Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique.

The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 278 on Sunday to 263 on Monday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Sofala, 72; Zambezia, 57; Maputo city, 36; Niassa, 25; Gaza. 21; Tete, 16; Cabo Delgado, 11; Nampula, 10; Inhambane, nine; Maputo province, four; and Manica, two.

The Ministry release also reported that on Sunday a further 646 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,646,534, which is 96.3 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
