Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique has reaffirmed its determination to deepen relations with China within the framework of the Forum for Economic and Commercial Cooperation between China and the Portuguese Speaking Counties (otherwise known as the Macau Forum) and the Belt and Road Initiative.

According to the Maputo daily “Noticias”, this pledge was made in Dakar on Tuesday by Mozambican Foreign Minister Veronica Macamo during the last day of the eighth ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Macamo identified key areas of focus, which are in alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which include: the deepening of cooperation in the international arena on issues of common interest; increasing trade between China and Africa and a greater opening of Chinese markets to African products through a preferential trade agreement; the financial diversification of projects to increase productive capacity with a greater focus on foreign direct investment; the formation of public-private partnerships and joint ventures; and the mechanisation of agriculture to increase food production and boost African industrialisation.

The minister noted the need to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to their potential to create jobs, especially for young people. She also stressed the role of technical and professional training in driving production.

In addition, Macamo saluted China for its decision to provide a billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the African continent. This was announced on Monday by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his speech at the opening session of the FOCAC conference.

During her stay in Dakar, Macamo held working meetings with Senegal’s Foreign Minister Aissata Tall Sall and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The FOCAC conference was held on Monday and Tuesday under the theme “Deepen China-Africa Partnership and Promote Sustainable Development to Build a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the New Era”.
