Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s women’s national football team won the bronze medal in the COSAFA Women’s Championship, beating Zimbabwe 2-0.

The First Lady of the Republic of Mozambique Isaura Nyusi opened the doors of the presidential palace to extol the achievements of a team that, more than simply enriching the national sports medal haul, had projected the image of Mozambique across the world stage.

Isaura Nyusi conveyed to the team the pride of the country, in general, and of Mozambican women, in particular, given the bronze medal won on Sunday by the national women’s football team in the South African province of Gauteng.

On the occasion, the wife of the Mozambican head of state said that the ‘Mambonas’ had shone at this year’s COSAFA as a result of well-planned preparation.

“Let us remember that preparation for the COSAFA tournament and qualification for CAN-2024 began in March of this year, with the holding of interprovincial tournaments,” the First Lady recalled. “This exercise allowed the technical team to identify the best athletes to represent the country in this mission. Likewise, control games were held against the Eswathini and Senegal teams, which contributed greatly to the preparation and participation of our girls in this competition.”

“Let us be aware that the third place achieved in the COSAFA tournament is the corollary of hard, joint and continuous work and, above all, a lot of discipline and determination,” she added.

Isaura Nyusi said that the dedication, commitment and patriotic spirit that the women’s football team had demonstrated in the various competitions in which it had taken part the country’s pride in raising the national flag at the highest level of competition.
