Africa-PressMozambique. The woman burned by her husband in Nampula province, in northern Mozambique succumbed to her injuries and died on Tuesday, a source at the Nampula Central Hospital (HCN) told Lusa today.

“She came in with fourth-degree burns, that is, very serious burns, over about 90% of her body surface,” Laise Duarte, general practitioner at HCN, told Lusa today.

The victim’s husband, who is on the run, beat her and set her on fire after dousing her with petrol, set her on fire “for reasons of passion”, police told Lusa on Tuesday.

According to the doctor, the victim was admitted to hospital on Monday morning and died in intensive care on Tuesday afternoon.

“Since she came, her condition continued to deteriorate,” Laise Duarte observed. “The possibility of her surviving was minimal; she was burned all over.”

According to the victim’s brother, the couple had had problems, but he understood there to have been a reconciliation.
