Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican judoka Shenidy Tsemane is the African cadet Judo champion, having won the gold medal in the under-57kg category at the African Cadets and Junior Judo Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

It was the first time that the national anthem was sung for African Judo in Nairobi. Tsemane beat her Cameroonian opponent in a tough fight.

Hers was not the only medal the country won in the championships, with Jennie Munene and Paulo Ribeiro Júnior each winning bronze for Mozambique in the under-48kg women’s and under-66kg men’s categories respectively.

These were the first major medals Mozambique has won in the sport since the bronze secured by Kevin Loforte in Senegal in 2021.

The Africa Juniors and Cadets Judo championships took place in the Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi, from the 21st to the 24th of July.

Commonwealth Games

Still in Judo, Mozambique will be represented by three athletes at the Commonwealth Games from July 28 to August 8 – Jacira Ferreira, Narciso Matos and Mauro Nassone, all coached by Adriano Cândido.
