Africa-Press – Mozambique. 6 months ago, it was just 220 hectares of bare plain, randomly dotted with weak vegetation. This land is 10 km away from Nathaca, the nearest administrative centre of the Larde district, and half as much from Kenmare Moma Mining. It seemed tucked away much further, especially during rainy seasons when dirt roads would become inaccessible.
The transformation started when MozParks, the developer and operator of Agro-Industrial Parks, embarked on a new project in Nampula Province. The provincial administration welcomed the creation of MozParks Topuito Agro-Industrial Park (MozParks Topuito), the innovation hub for supporting start-ups. It seeks to nurture small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and create jobs for the local communities.
Newly fortified roads, steady power and water supplies, plus the enormous enthusiasm and effort of the MozParks construction team created a new industrial landscape. When the governor of the Nampula Province, Manuel Rodrigues, visited MozParks Topuito last Tuesday he looked at the industrial sites ready to host new enterprises. Brand new residential and administrative buildings are ready to open their doors to the first tenants at the end of this month. Enormous warehouse units, dominate the 30 hectares of the developed part of the industrial zone, and are ready to receive the first trucks as from now. Phase 1 of the Agro-Industrial Park’s construction is almost completed.
The Governor of Nampula said that “The development of MozParks Topuito means creating jobs for our people. You can see that already many workers from Angoche, Moma and Larde are already involved with the stage of building necessary infrastructure. We are looking forward to the further industrial projects being developed in the park”.
Gareth Clifton, Kenmare Moma mining country manager, who also visited the Mozparks Topuito, expressed a deep interest in the partnership of the Kenmare megaproject with the new agro-industrial park. “At the moment there is a very small presence of value chains in the province. Together with MozParks Topuito we can influence their creation and contribute to the development of the Larde and Moma districts,” pointed out Gareth Clifton.
“MozParks Topuito will be welcoming the first companies at the developed industrial sites in September. The rest of the 190 hectares are planned to be fully developed in the next 3 years,” stated Onorio Manuel, MozParks General Manager.
Operating at full capacity, the Mozparks Topuito will offer an environment where local and international enterprises can attract investment and foster technological learning and innovation. Buyers, producers, and suppliers would operate in the same location influencing the creation of circular economies. There will be a big demand in skilled workers and professional training.
