Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Elias Magosi, believes that Mozambique’s “inclusive national dialogue”, which begins on Wednesday, is crucial for social harmony and economic development.

The “inclusive dialogue” is based on a document signed by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and nine political parties in March, which the country’s parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, then transformed into a law.

Most of the parties that signed the initial document are tiny and politically irrelevant. The main opposition figure, Venâncio Mondlane, who was runner up in the 2024 presidential election, was not involved in those discussions, but he was finally invited to take part in the dialogue.

According to Magosi, who was speaking to reporters on Tuesday, after he was received in an audience granted to him by President Chapo, the dialogue “is a step in the right direction, and we really congratulate the country for helping this region to stabilize, to move forward in terms of economic development issues. We cannot develop without peace in the country”.

“Among the things we talked about, the first was the issue of peace and security. We noted that after the general elections there was conflict”, he added.

The diplomat also said that he discussed with the President “the process of facilitating trade between SADC countries, noting that there is a Regional Trade Protocol, which accompanies the Regional Development Fund.”

“We invited Mozambique to ratify some instruments that are key to the Regional Development Fund, which helps countries with financial deficits, such as Mozambique, to generate investment”, he said.
