Africa-Press – Mozambique. Through the upgrading of the National Museum of Natural History, Mozambique will, as of 2025, have its first Biodiversity Conservation Centre.
This development comes in the wake of the launch in Maputo last Thursday of two research programs in the areas of biodiversity conservation and environmental preservation.
These are: “Resources, Innovation and Development for Conservation Areas” (RINO), and “Preservation of Ecosystems for Sustainable Development” (‘ManGrowth’).
Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, said at the launch ceremony that he hoped that these two initiatives would boost the creation of a scientific research movement linked to the preservation of the environment in Mozambique.
On the occasion, the Italian Ambassador to Mozambique, Gianni Bardini, stressed that the RINO and ManGrowth programs aim to strengthen the country’s capacity for scientific research targeted at protecting biodiversity.
Launched on World Wildlife Day, the RINO and ManGrowth programs will be implemented in partnership with Eduardo Mondlane University and other institutions.
