The new rates will come into effect on 15 May 2025.

During post-election protests, 25 of the 41 toll booths in the country were put out of operation by vandalism of offices and sabotage of barriers and toll collection systems, among other damages. Even those that are functioning are operating under abnormal conditions, with some drivers persisting in causing disorder in order to continue to pass without paying the due fees.

In this context, the statement from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics explains that, with the objective of reducing fees to alleviate the cost of living and to revive the economy after the post-election protests, the government had decided to cut toll fees throughout the country, with a special focus on public transport for passengers and residents in areas close to the toll booths.

With the downward revision of toll rates, the government hopes to alleviate the operating costs of public passenger transport service providers in the urban and interprovincial segment, as well as to alleviate the burden on citizens who regularly use tolls. The government has instructed the managers of concession roads to continue to “dialogue with toll users, publicizing the new rates and benefits defined, as well as addressing the concerns raised”, the statement concludes
