Niassa province declared cholera-free after successful response efforts

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The province of Niassa was declared free from the cholera outbreak, a disease that broke out in this region late last year.

The declaration by the health authorities of Niassa comes as the Province has not recorded any cases of cholera in the last forty-five days.

In Niassa, cholera affected the districts of Lichinga, Chimbunila, Majune, Cuamba, and Metarica, with a cumulative total of four hundred and twenty-seven cases, resulting in three deaths.

The Provincial Health Director in Niassa, Ramos Mboane, said this Tuesday that despite the province being declared free from the cholera outbreak, there is a need to continue working on the good practices that have been disseminated in the communities to prevent the resurgence of the so-called “dirty hands disease.”
