Africa-Press – Mozambique. Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, replacing the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sky Sports News reports that the 60-year-old Australian has signed a two-year deal at the City Ground and will be officially unveiled on Thursday afternoon.

Postecoglou returns to management just three months after being dismissed by Spurs, despite guiding them to Europa League glory last season. He succeeds Nuno, who was relieved of his duties late on Monday night following a breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. It is understood that Nuno himself pushed for his exit.

Forest’s Greek owner, Marinakis, has long admired Postecoglou, whose family roots trace back to Greece. Explaining his decision, Marinakis said:

“We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”

The owner added that Forest’s next step, after promotion to the Premier League and securing European football, is to compete with the very best and challenge for silverware — something he believes Postecoglou is capable of delivering.

Postecoglou will begin his Forest tenure with four consecutive away matches, starting with a tough Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime. His first home game in charge will come on September 27 against Sunderland.

The appointment gives the Australian tactician another chance in the Premier League, as well as in European competition, under Marinakis’ ambitious project.
