Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi begins a four-day working visit to the Republic of Korea today (02) in response to an invitation from his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk Yeol.

During the visit, Nyusi will participate in the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit, which will be held in the capital, Seoul, under the theme “Building the Future Together: Economic Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity,” as well as the Korea-Africa Business Forum.

“On the sidelines of the summit, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea and meet with CEOs of South Korean companies and the Mozambican community residing in Korea,” according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, a copy of which was sent to AIM.

According to Korean authorities, the event will be attended by more than 30 Heads of State and Government from the African continent, representatives of multilateral organizations, and CEOs of Korean and African companies.

A Mozambican government source stated, “Our participation in the summit aims to promote the opportunities and potential that the country offers, as well as to seek support from the Korean government to attract investors for our National Program to Industrialize Mozambique.”

This engagement is crucial because Korea has experienced a similar situation to Mozambique. Thus, it is essential to learn from their experience and see how they managed to overcome poverty, similar to that in Mozambique and many African countries, the source explained. Additionally, Mozambique has the advantage of abundant natural resources.

Mozambique established diplomatic relations with Korea in 1993, and the Korean embassy in Mozambique was only opened in 2013.
