Africa-Press – Mozambique. Director General of the Institute of Standardization and Quality (INNOQ), Geraldo Albasini, said recently that, of the approximately 5,000 companies registered in Mozambique, only 160 are INNOQ-certified.

“We have around 160 companies certified by INNOQ for quality management systems, but, with a total around 5,000 companies in Mozambique, it is a drop in the ocean,” Albasini said on the sidelines of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce first National Quality Conference.

He further explained that the poor take-up of certification is due, on one hand, to lack of information and, on the other, to the lack of quality culture on the part of the consumer.

“Until we have a culture of high quality and a more demanding society, we will face a challenge,” Albasini highlighted.

Geraldo Albasini pointed out that financial costs are another element that holds companies back from undertaking certification, because, he explained, it requires an audit, often carried out by private companies which set their own fees.
