Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s speaker of parliament, Esperança Bias, will represent the African country at the inauguration on Sunday of the Lula da Silva government in Brasilia, the Mozambican parliament said in a statement.
“To witness the act, the speaker of the Mozambican Parliament left Maputo on Wednesday for Brazil, representing the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi,” said a brief note from the Mozambican parliament distributed to the media.
Lula da Silva, candidate of the Workers’ Party (left-wing), was elected on 30 October president of Brazil, with 50.9%, defeating Jair Bolsonaro, who obtained 49.1%, after all the votes were counted, according to the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 77, obtained more than 60.3 million votes (50.9% of the total), with a lead of more than 2.1 million over Bolsonaro (far-right), who got 58.2 million (49.1%), in the presidential election, the TSE portal stated.
At least 17 heads of state and government are expected for the inauguration, including, among others, Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as well as from Germany, the King of Spain and leaders from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Likewise, some 300,000 people are expected at the party prepared by Lula’s team, which will include shows with dozens of popular artists.
On Tuesday, the transition team said that the swearing-in ceremony next Sunday would be peaceful, despite what they classify as terrorist threats from extremists who reject the results of the polls.
