Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane will represent President Filipe Nyusi at the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification in Niamey, Niger, from 24 to 27 November.

The Mozambican delegation to Niger includes the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel José Gonçalves and members of staff of various state institutionsThe summit is being held under the motto, “Industrialising Africa: Renewed Commitment Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification”, and was convened as part of the Africa Industrialization Week annual commemorative activities.

Given the importance of industrialization and economic transformation in Africa, the 20th of November is commemorated as the Africa Industrialization Day, adopted by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African Unity in July, 1989, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Africa Industrialization Day provides an opportunity for key stakeholders to reflect on Africa’s industrialization by looking at how the continent can change its current status quo.

Since 2018, Africa Industrialization Day has been commemorated with week-long events, marking a departure from the one-day tradition, which affords more time to reflect and accelerate actions towards Africa’s structural transformation and meet the objectives of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 SDGs.
