Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the province of Nampula says it has filed a criminal complaint against the Renamo provincial delegate in Nampula, Abiba Aba, for allegedly inciting party members and supporters to attack an armed, plain-clothes policemen at a rally he was leading in Nampula yesterday.

According to spokesman Zacarias Nacute, Aba is accused of inciting violence and the aggravated theft of a firearm, later recovered from his home.

Nacute told reporters that the police officer was scheduled to work undercover at the march, which Renamo had reported to the police authorities, and that he was duly identified alongside other officers who were guaranteeing security by wearing police uniforms.

“He was rescued from the scene unconscious,” Nacute said, adding that he was fighting for his life due to the severity of the injuries the mob inflicted.

We contacted the Nampula Central Hospital, which said that it would consult yesterday’s admissions and identify the ward in which the police officer in question might be.
