Africa-Press – Mozambique. Spokesperson for the PRM Command in Nampula, Zacarias Nacute, told the press this Monday (30-10) that Renamo members and supporters had manufactured home-made bombs and that, during the demonstrations [on Friday], they hit a member of the Rapid Intervention Unit, resulting in him having his forearm amputated at Nampula Central Hospital.

Cited by O País, Nacute said that, based on police intelligence, it was possible to collect home-made explosive material which, it is is believed. would be used against the police. Such material, according to the police, was in the Renamo political delegation in the city of Nampula.

The police authorities accuse Renamo’s political delegate in Nampula, Abiba Aba, and the mayors of Nampula, Paulo Vahanle, and Nacala, Raúl Novinte, of being the masterminds of last Friday’s violent demonstrations, resulting in a case against them being filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, along with the aforementioned evidence, with a view to legal instruction.

At least 101 people were arrested in the municipalities of Nampula and Nacala and nine police officers were injured ion the wake of demonstrations in the two municipalities.
