Africa-Press – Mozambique. The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has, by presidential dispatch, appointed Leonardo Santos Simão ‘Roving Ambassador of Mozambique’, residing in the capital of the country, a communiqué received in our editorial office indicates.
A ‘roving ambassador’ is a diplomat with the rank of ambassador who is appointed to carry out specific missions while continuing to reside mainly in the mother country.
Leonardo Simão first joined the government in 1982, assuming the position of provincial director of Health in Zambézia.
In 1986, he became Minister of Health, remaining in that role until the 1994 elections, when he became a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic.
In December 1994, Leonardo Simão was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and remained in office until February, 2005.
