Africa-Press – Mozambique. During his working visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, from 12 to 15 February 2026, in the context of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit, the President of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, held several political and economic meetings, both with high dignitaries from friendly countries and with representatives of various business and economic sectors.

In these meetings, the Head of State shared the political, economic and social situation of the country, with particular emphasis on the impact of the recent extreme events that struck the country (floods and urban flooding, and Cyclone Gezani). He received from his counterparts expressions of solidarity and commitments to support the mitigation of the immediate effects and recovery in the post-disaster period.

One of the political meetings held by the Mozambican Head of State was with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, who is the Head of Government of this country located in the eastern region of Africa. During the meeting, they assessed the state of cooperation between the two countries and expressed mutual interest in continuing to deepen it. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of aviation, security and urban development.

President Chapo also held, among others, a political meeting with his Congolese counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi, within the framework of the diplomatic and historical relations that the two countries have maintained for more than five decades. The two Heads of State expressed their interest in continuing to consolidate these relations, both within the context of the AU and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as bilaterally.

On the occasion, President Chapo stated that Mozambique unequivocally believes that dialogue is the best solution to any dispute or conflict, in any part of the world. In this regard, he shared the experience of the ongoing Inclusive National Dialogue in Mozambique since 2025, with the participation of all sectors of society.

The Head of State also met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

With regard to the economic sphere, President Chapo received in audience the Vice-President of the World Bank, Makhtar Diop; the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Abdullah Almusaibeeh; the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Claver Gatete; the AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (ARBE), Moses Vilakati; the economist Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network; and the Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, Lorenzo Simonelli.

In all these meetings, the presidential vision of Mozambique’s economic independence was at the top of the agenda.
