President dismisses special envoy for UN Security Council campaign

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi yesterday dismissed Leonardo Simão as roving ambassador and special envoy to promote the country’s candidacy for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, according to a statement.

“Leonardo Simão’s dismissal follows the completion of the mission that culminated in Mozambique’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council,” the note adds.

Simão was appointed to the position he left this Monday in September, 2021, with the aim of promoting Mozambique’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, a mission achieved last June.

Leonardo Simão was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Minister of Health in the governments of President Joaquim Chissano, who headed the Mozambican state between 1986 and 2005.
