President flies to Namibia for Nandi-Ndaitwah’s inauguration

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, leaves this Thursday to Namibia, at the invitation of his counterpart, Nangolo Mbumba.

During the visit, President Chapo will tomorrow participate in the inauguration ceremony of Namibia’s President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

In addition, the Mozambican Head of State will attend, also on Friday, the celebrations of the 35th Independence Day celebrations that will be held at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.

Th visit of the Mozambican Head of State take place until the 21st, and will include a series of official activities of great importance for relations between the two countries.

Daniel Chapo’s visit will also be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation ties between Mozambique and Namibia, with the Mozambican President maintaining contact with other Heads of State and Government who will be present at the ceremony.

The President’s agenda of meetings is expected to focus on topics of mutual interest, with a view to deepening bilateral relations and promoting new strategic partnerships.

Accompanying the President to Namibia will be the First Lady, Gueta Chapo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuel dos Santos Lucas, as well as officials from the Presidency of the Republic and other Mozambican State institutions.

Namibia’s first woman president-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, will take office this Friday, March 21, in a ceremony to coincide with the country’s 35th Independence Day

President-elect Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, incumbent vice president for Namibia and the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), won the elections in November with 57.31% of the vote, beating 14 rivals and crossing the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff.

Her victory extended SWAPO’s rule in Namibia since independence.

She succeeds Mbumba, who has served as interim president for a year since the death of the third president, Hage Geingob, in February of last year.

Namibia gained independence from Germany in 1990.

President Chapo’s visit to Namibia takes place at a time of growing collaboration between the two countries, with a particular focus on economic, diplomatic and regional development areas.
