President Nyusi heads to Algeria for working visit and GECF Summit

Africa-Press – Mozambique. President Filipe Nyusi is, from this Wednesday to Saturday, paying a working visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, at the invitation of his counterpart there, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

During the visit, Filipe Nyusi will hold talks with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as part of the strengthening of friendly and cooperative relations between the two peoples and countries, as well as visiting places of economic, historical and cultural interest.

The Mozambican head of state will also, on Saturday, participate in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit of Heads of State and Government, which takes place in Algiers under the motto: Making Natural Gas the Central Resource for Inclusive and Sustainable Development.

The GECF summit will focus on matters that encourage countries and governments to embrace new trends and dynamics in the sector to enable a global, sustainable environment for the gas sector in the future, as well as reinforcing the role of gas exporting countries in preserving their interests, whether national or organisational.

President Nyusi is accompanied by First Lady Isaura Ferrão Nyusi; by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias; the Minister of the Interior, Pascoal Ronda; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves; the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Olegário Banze; and by members of staff of the Presidency of the Republic and other State institutions.

Filipe Nyusi’s arrival in Algiers is scheduled for late afternoon today. The President will be received by Algeria’s Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, who will subsequently hold a briefing with the Mozambican delegation accompanying him.
